HGTV TV show

Remember I mentioned that one of the VPs did an episode for a HGTV tv show? That few episodes didn't do so well. A few months ago, he changed the direction of the tv show. He has a talent for restoring old homes to its original state with a little bit of modern touch. Well, since the first episode of the new show aired, he got really good ratings. They just signed him for 12 episodes = 12 houses. This is really his passion. So now he's a consultant/part-time at the company and his full time job is to do the tv show. How cool is that? please: :cheer

I also found out that a few years ago, he bought a $2M house, fix it up and sold it for $7.5M.

I like Flip or Flop show. I often think of myself as home decor designer extraordinaire but no one has realized my talent yet :D

AnhCung 05-17-2016 01:10 AM

What's the name of his show? I'm planning on re-doing my house. can use some inspiration.

Alashikata 05-17-2016 01:15 AM

tash can show me your talent  I was working on the old heater last week that has been disconnected so I removed and tried to fix the wall but no idea what to do next. Maybe you can give me some ideas

your house seems like an endless project. is it a money pitt?

Alashikata 05-17-2016 03:29 AM

Not really a money pit, it's where I plan to move back for retirement. Nothing has done to interior for the last 20 years, so it's good time to start every weekend until finish, maybe couple years project  Cheap property tax

tash 05-17-2016 04:08 AM

I need an open concept area to decorate. I cannot work with a space like that. Just buy a new house

how much is cheap property tax? did you get a good price for this house? Looks like you have to gut every area of the house.

Thats the part i worry about when buying an older home. Gotta fix every thing to tailor to my style. and the fact i'm not a handyman like you, i'll have to hire contractors. then it'll end up costing a lot more than a new house.

Alashikata 05-17-2016 04:36 AM

$90k - 1500 sq ft with a lot 15000 :D so the tax around $1300

It's original Gas Heater that I am disconnected and removed since no longer use. So what can I do with the wall after remove the air vents :D

Before

AnhCung 05-17-2016 04:46 AM

I would give my right arm for a $1300 property tax.
In Texas I am paying 3.4% of the value each year.

ii2404 05-17-2016 04:52 AM

What a deal. I need to learn from you. buy a 90K house and hire you to fix it. save so much money.

can you remove the wall to open up the area? or is the wall for structural support? it's hard to say what to do with it when we can't see the whole picture.

Alashikata 05-17-2016 05:04 AM

AnhCung, you guys don't pay state tax that's why the property tax is high.

ii2404, wow I never thought about it. I can reinforce the structure if remove the wall. Let me check with my mom to see if she likes that. :D It's actually a hall way to the kitchen from all bedrooms

nhà texit thì nên mua nhà cheap mà ở thôi .. mua nhà xịn thì state nó dớt hết về property tax :D ...

bác alash ... that a gut job ... dục hết rồi làm lại từ đầu with an open concept plan ...

rất thích cái old hard wood floor .. keep this only :D ...

Alashikata 05-17-2016 05:33 AM

Just talked to my mom about the idea but she said "keep the wall so we can close the door when cooking, no bad smell go to the bedrooms :D

LinhXa  I expect no body will pay attention to this area so planning to cut a sheetrock and patch it :D I like the old house, this was built in 1960 so you know all the wood was great. I was surprise the original wood has no damage after I removed the carpet.

ohh this is your mom's house huh :D .. nếu dị thì nên làm lại hết sheetrock (WTF we cali call this dry walls man ) ... i used to own a 1964 house and the wood is still so damn good compare to today's house .. wood back there were aged and with lot of oil in them; thus, the wood turn dark .. unlike today's wood all white and soft ..

seem like a range style 60's home with kitchen in the front .. and living room facing the garden ...

SaigonGal 05-17-2016 05:44 AM

Ở socal ~ 500K

In ~ 5 more yrs ... plan to retire and looking for a big land property in the bad school neighborhood :D ..small house but big land để retire ... tính kiếm ở inland SD và northen LA like venture county ...

chỗ bác alash thì .. chắc là nóng lắm :D ...

Alashikata 05-17-2016 06:05 AM

For Sactown is around $250K now. The summer is hot but the winter last longer than in South Cal. Sometimes we still wear the jacket over here but South Cal bận quần tọt áo thung đi tỉnh queo

We don't like 2 stories over here. Single story is better and easy to fix. Old pipes :D So in the winter, cost a lot of elect. for heat. I pumped 20 bags more of insulation in the attic up to 12", it did help and installed solar fan on the roof that does pretty well in the summer.

With 1500 sq ft lot, I can parcel the property to build another house but they asked for 15k just do the lot parcel so I cancelled.

There is really nothing to fix except I want to repaint inside after 20 years. :D

If you want big lot and small house, you have to look in the old area but some are not cheap.

I thought houses in CA are very expensive. Surprised to hear you can get a house with that price there. Where city is it in anh Alash? What is the average temp in the winter? And how hot does it get in the summer? Neu mà nhà con có gia này, mình làm neighbor nha
