These Days

These days are filled with strife
And of the sort that threatens life
The Middle East is split asunder
In such a way to cause much wonder
The price of oil has gone sky high
As I ponder the reason why
I hear Japan's been shaken
With so many lives soon taken
Homes and families washed away
No more to enjoy a single day
Events like this, we must evaluate
Before the time that it's too late
So my friend, please do not wait
Because there is an appointed date
By the One who knows all things
Whom when we know, peace He brings

Hidden Truth

Looking east, the moon arose
Beyond the distant woods enclosed
Bigger than had been supposed (this happens every 18 years)
For reasons science has exposed
But why so many years had passed
This truth revealed to me at last
And not in the far distant past
Be thankful for the truth one hast
We are surrounded by hidden truth
Though we often lack the proof
Waiting to be revealed some day
And further enrich our lives some way

Words Unspoken

Opportunity is all around us
To speak a word upon a bus
A simple task with little fuss
Yet they remain words unspoken

When I think of people past
Though for a time which did not last
Whose troubles a long shadow cast
But helpful words remained unspoken

Let us take this as a token
Say the words with heart laid open
A word to express compassion
May it become our daily fashion
Not regret due to words unspoken

Words of Gratitude

There are words we love to hear
But fail to answer due to fear
And thus, an opportunity is lost
A word of thanks, there is no cost
And so we see the lesson learned
Words of gratitude, so deeply earned
Indeed, a simple truth my friend

To Persevere

They set out on a mountain trail
The plan was formed, it could not fail
Expecting an easy ride downhill
The trail was rough, they did assail

Time went by, with progress slow
And now the trail became their foe
The sun itself soon stood low
Would they succeed, they did not know

Now with darkness, they must proceed
The trail itself was faint indeed
They stumbled forth, no light to lead
Thoughts sought Him, a heart felt plead

To climb another ridge, filled with hope
While still composed, as they must cope

Yet beyond that ridge lay more despair
As another lengthy climb went nowhere

What learning trials like this will bring
To persevere is no small thing

A Lingering Thrill

As I walked along the wooded trail
A fresh sensation did soon assail
Each tree, each branch clearly glistened
Not a sound was heard, though I listened
A brilliant white from new fallen snow
How long would it last, I didn't know
All I saw brought my heart a special thrill
Though strong at first, it lingers still

So many words
Yet how do I choose
So many birds
Yet each has it's own nest
Even as there is a word which is best
Proper speech implies thought
For which end I have wrought
So let my words aim to please
For I must stand by these

When I was young our home burned wood
This was so because we could

Then bye and bye we changed to coal
Decrease the cost was then the goal

After this we went to oil
This indeed reduced our toil

Time went by and prices rose
This soon brought on our woes

Now I am old and returned to wood heat
Simply because it can't be beat

And so you see my friend
I've come full circle in the end
