Greedy!

You can do either traditional or roth 401k and max out at 18k. Additional retirement plan is 457 to max out at 18k.

I thought they allow
-Traditional : $18000
-Roth: $5500

So I want to max out both but when I tried to change this morning. It said I maxed out I already emailed to ask them what happen.

Already max out both 401k and 457

Hum, I also have Fidelity Roth, how come IRS didn't say anything. I did put in my tax return. IRS should know and do something. I remembered one time I put more than what I support so I got some cash return and paid tax on it

I see, so I can max out IRA and Roth for $36k? But I don't want to do IRA, it doesn't help since no tax deduction I guess I am stuck.

I thought you know the loopholes

My friend is like you, tried to max 401k more than 18k, he got a returned check... Follow the rules boys/girls... My company doesn't even allow me to max 18k/yr 401k even though the IRS is allowed it.

Have been searching since this morning but couldn't find any other options. Need to find a way to keep my tax bracket at 15% since last year was almost few bucks to reach 25% tax rate

So what do you do to keep your tax rate low while you enjoy spending

What? I'm confused. You can only contribute to a max of 18k on your 401k, whether roth or traditional or combination of both.

How did you get 18k of traditional and 5.5k of roth on your 401k? You probably did roth ira with that 5.5k?

Bac Alas,

1. I don't make as much as you are
2. I have a small family of 4. $800/mo property taxes
3. Still owe 140k to the bank for mortgage
4. secret talk
5. more secret talk
6. secret etc...

Bac II2404

For me, 401k is from work with a matching of 6%. Let's just assume I make 100k/yr. My company will match 6k/yr for me.

Roth IRA is on the side outside of my company. I can only max 5.5k/yr for me and 5.5k for wife. Everyone's company has diff. set of rules and such... We can't compare apple to apple here...

At first, I thought my company allows $18k traditional and $5.5k Roth. So I changed contribution this morning on the web but it rejected with a message "you already max out your plan" I emailed to them but haven't get the answer. I guess as you said $18k for either one or combine.

I do have Roth IRA $5.5k/yr. Not 401k Roth

Alashikata and I have the same max contributions. That's why what he was saying earlier didn't make sense. His company max contributions is 36k, and roth ira is not a company plan, which they allow max of 5.5k per year.

The other company was managed my 401k and their instruction was mislead me into $18k for each traditional and roth. So I was planning max out all until the new company took over, they have instruction on the web but not that clear either but I didn't pay attention until yesterday I went to max out and it didn't work.

And finally got email from them "I'm sorry for any confusion, but the Roth 401K or Roth 457 option is different that a standard Roth. So the overall limit for the 401K is $18,000.00 total, that can be made up of both pre-tax and Roth funds, but the over all total is still $18K."

Now I need to look other alternatives for the long term to see what I can do to minimize the tax bracket.

10K vs. $10 chi khac nhau la chu*~ K thoi.... The road to a million dollar dream for retirement is getting longer, at least 1 year longer than anticipated. There you go, another 10k lost... Somebody is happy as the short sellers, the rest of the other holders are crying their hearts, even the billionaires NNN co cau, nha` gia`u cung~ kho'c thi` ddu'ng nha^'t trong lu'c na`y... hahaha

I suspect there is at least another 100+ points drop tomorrow. If that is the case, sell your house and go all-in. You are likely to double in a year or so...

I may have to put up a sign saying:
House for sale - owner needs to own stock shares
