If you gain $80k-$120K / yr in your 401K, do you continue playing other stock?

How much do you need to have in 401K in order to gain that much? I assumed with 8% average gain/year, you need at least $1M in your 401K in order to gain $80K. How can a working young man/women have that much in 401K?

A young man/woman can't achievement that much, you need a long time to build up, at least 20 years. And must be aggressive with your selection

So, until you can build up that much in 401K, you need to invest a little risky in stocks to speed up your assets , right?

You can't take out 401k until 59 1/2 anyway so why not take a risk. This is a long term investment, not something that you want to take out anytime. Whenever it's down, keep buying but don't sell/move your funds. Wait until the funds gaining back, then you can move around. But I have been in high risk for 20 years, so I don't really move my funds much

Take 20 years

I have done compared for few years until 2018, then I decide to contribute to MidCap only and moved all to Midcap which it's high risk but it's been stable for the last 20 years.

I agree with you. Most of our funds are hybrid, 60% stocks and 40% bonds or 70/30. I am not a fan of buying individual stocks, especially low end company. So, my husband and I are in the long run as you said, we are not greedy and don't have stomach for the ups and downs of the market, that's why we chose that way of our investment.

Don't buy bond, you want all to high risk to gain fast I never did with bond.

If you have 100K extra, I suggest to play individual. That's what I do below, get extra cash for fun.

Looks like you have several funds in your RothIRA with healthy gains . How much Fidelity charged commission to trade these funds if you don't mind I ask?

$4.95

I start ROTH kinda late, didn't think much about it. If you're young, you want to do early since it's no gain tax and max around $5500 so it's not that much.

I just checked ETGLX and WSMNX funds. They're both NTF per Fidelity which is good. However, the Net Expense Ratio is kinda high (over 1.3%) that makes me to hesitate about it a bit. I like ETFs more than MF since they mostly have low Expense Ratio. The market is down today and it's a good time to jump in . Do you have any good ETF?

FAS is heavy in Financial and Real Estate, not much in Tech. Too risky for us since we think Real Estate is at the highest as it can go for now. It's going to bust soon. We like tech stocks since it's the future.
