I think data plan is absolutely required whenever you sign up for the Iphone, basically you can't avoid it. If you're currently using a ATT phone and buy a iphone from ebay, you might be able to avoid it by not using the internet. If you use the internet, ATT is able to find out and charging you the data plan.

Don't sign up for iphone with ATT. If you do, which it required you to get with data plan. Search on Ebay or Craiglist and buy but you have to becareful buying on ebay and craigslist. Scammers are everywhere. Iphone is a hot item. If you get one, then you can use it. If you have data plan already, you can still use it with correct custom APN setting.

Well, how do you know if he cannot afford the data plan? Maybe he has a specific reason to not be bound by their data plan/network. To each his own, but I suggest you guys keep your opinion to yourselves.

To OP: There's no way to get around the Data Plan, if you purchase an iPhone from the Apple Store or its retailers (Best Buy, AT&T, Sam's, etc.) The only way is to purchase a unlocked iPhone and use your SIM with it -- that is if you are in the States and already have a SIM with AT&T or T-Mobile.

There is no way yet to use the iphone without the data plan, even you buy an unlocked iphone...

myself and wify are using Unlocked Iphone 3gs for tmobile WITHOUT DATA plan.

your mom gave me that key last night when I picked up my dog from her house.. shixcx.....do you want to try out too? it was really nasty. and yeah I felt sorry that dog and just sold my dog to pay for a data plan for my iphone so that I can show off too...

Take the SIM card out and use your iphone only for Wifi...that's all you can do...if you have your SIM card inserted, AT&T will bill you for data plan soon or later...

iphone bạn là gì, nếu là iphone 4/4s mua trước 01 tháng 3 2012
và phải là fw 5.0.1 thì bạn chỉ cần mua cái gevey sim unlock GSM
và xài bất cứ công ty phone nào hoạc xài thẻ prepaird mua $ 40 xài 1 tháng unlimited sms/calling

còn nếu máy bạn 5.1 update lên rồi thì ko unlock duoc , xài ATT chứ tmobile hay gsm khác cũng ko xài được

Is your iPhone activated already? If not then you can use a non-smartfone SIM card (I use a 3GS) with your iPhone without a data plan. Just don't update your firmware to avoid detection. If you have a 4/4S then the SIM card from your non-smartfone will not fit. Otherwise you have to have your fone unlocked which can create issues down the line. I'm not cheap but I'm not a tech geek and refuse to let these tech devices dictate my life.

Like many in here have said already.

If you're signing up an iPhone contract, you must have the Data plan.

If you're buying your own iPhone and using with AT&T, they will be able to detect your iPhone, then start charging you Data.

The best way is to go with non-AT&T carriers, provided you must have an unlock-able iPhone. Or go with AT&T re-sellers, if you have a locked iPhone.
