Two principal methods have been adoptedby him for this purpose: one of science and the otherof religion. Scientists seeking for truth outside thebody, have delved into the earth, flown in the sky,crossed the mountains, reached the poles and formedsome idea (even though their conceptions go onchanging from age to age) of the nature and formationof the earth. They have not, however, discovered theUltimate Truth by their investigations and have noinkling at all of our True Home. As a matter of fact,even modern philosophy, borrowing indiscriminatelyfrom modern science, has moved farther from the Truthby emphasizing the material aspect of the mind and themechanical nature of the body. But the second group of investigators, whom wecall Saints, Perfect Masters, Mystics and Prophets hadfound a complete answer to man's query about hisreal Home. Working with much finer instruments andon higher planes, they have made remarkable dis-coveries which the world is as yet far from appre-ciating fully. A most wonderful fact is that theirresearches, conducted within the human body, which isitself a natural laboratory, have yielded similar resultsin all ages, climes and countries. They have rentthe veils of illusion and have discovered truths that areeternal and immutable. In their books (which wecall scriptures) they have left details of the innerspiritual journey. Now let us find out what they haveto say about our True Home and the Path that leadsto it. "These are truths on which hundreds and thousands of mysticadepts are one. Not even by a hair's breadth do they differ,as intellectually learned people do." (Maulana Rum) The analysis of the self, as given by the Saints,reveals that there are three separate entities in man:the physical body, the mind and the spirit. Theessence or real man is the soul or spirit, while the mindand body are accretions that the soul has acquiredduring the course of its endless wanderings. Thisearth is the home of the physical body alone (we havetwo other bodies, the astral and the causal, but thesebelong to higher realms). The home of the mind is inTrikuti (the second Heaven) whereas the home of thesoul is in the highest of heavens called by Swami Jias Radha Swami Dham, meaning "Abode of theLord of the Soul." (37) |

Tất cả những bậc thánh nhân, hiền triết, nhà huyền học hay nhà tiên tri, dù ra đời ở đâu, cũng đều đồng thanh nói rõ rằng cái thế giới vật chất này không phải là Quê Nhà của chúng ta. Chư vị bảo : "Hỡi các bạn, các bạn là kẻ xa lạ trên mảnh đất này. Chúng ta đang ở trên một miền đất lạ, trên đó chúng ta chẳng sở hữu gì cả: Chẳng có gì tồn tại vững bền cả. Chúng ta không mãi tồn tại trong cùng một tấm hình hài. Bánh xe luân hồi cứ mãi lăn. Người và muôn thú, chim chóc và côn trùng, thần và thánh ... linh hồn tồn tại nơi đây dưới nhiều dạng như vậy. Nếu nơi này đúng là Quê Nhà của chúng ta thì hẳn là chúng ta mãi là người và hình hài của chúng ta hẳn là không bao giờ bị băng hoại. Thực tế thì không phải như vậy. Và đời sống con người thực tế là nhỏ nhoi, hèn mọn và ngắn ngủi. Nó chỉ là một ảo tưởng. Cái tình hình đó lại bị chúng ta làm cho phức tạp thêm bằng cách dựng lên những rào chắn giữa người với người. Nào là những tôn giáo, những giai cấp, những niềm tin, những khát vọng ... tất cả biến chúng ta thành những vật thể chia cách nhau và khiến cho cảnh hỗn độn càng thêm tồi tệ trên cái lãnh địa tối tăm, tức là trên quả đất nầy. Không ai đơn thuần là người! Anh ta có thể là một người Ấn Độ giáo, một người theo đạo Xích (Sikh), một người Hồi giáo hay là người Thiên Chúa giáo. Ngay cả một người Thiên Chúa giáo cũng không đơn thuần là một người Thiên Chúa giáo: Anh ta có thể là một người thợ gốm, thợ rèn hay thợ dệt. Con người là một tạo vật lang thang trong những cảnh giới hư nguỵ!" "Bạn hãy hồi tưởng lại cái nguồn gốc tâm linh vô vàn phúc lạc của mình, cái nguồn gốc không hiện lên trong trí nhớ. Be not afraid of getting out of thy mortal frame" (Maulana Rum) And yet our attachment to this earth, which is not our true abode, is extraordinary. When the infant arrives in this world, his attention is turned inward. But soon he opens his eyes, beholds the material world and forthwith falls a prey to its lure, gradually forgetting all about his Divine Home. The child harkens with his ears and starts listening to the conver-sation of those around him. His contact with the earth becomes closer. When he learns to talk, he is firmly bound to father and mother, sister and brother and the like. And in the end, after passing through all the seven stages of life, after fretting and strutting its hour upon the stage, the soul of man finds itself burdened with its earthly freight, that has been collected during its lifetime.  "Birth after birth art thou humiliated and shamed, And art in countless genera tossed. Anguish'd each breath in distress and pain,In spirit broke, thou dost invoke in vain. Fruitless thy calls for help remain, In hell art thou cast, in Yama's domain. Much wander-vex'd this body thou dost gain, Sway of mind and senses thou dost retain. Though Saints and Masters much exhort, And of the Tenth Gate give you supreme import. Thou art not firm, thou dost follow not,Time and again dost thou in nine doors rot." ( Swami Ji ) The Saints warn us against becoming too much engrossed in this material world, which is a land of Kal and Maya (the male and female principles of the Negative Power). The former is the deity generally known in this world as "God". This world belongs to him and he permits no one to stay in one place permanently. The body is a rented house. It is acage of Kal and after the allotted span, we are all obliged to leave it here. "The world holds us in thrall, A vast and deadly snare." (Guru Nanak) "Illusion hath conquered the world,Vanquished, it all lieth at her feet.Yogis 1ascetics and those with supernatural powers Never can they escape, them she doth also beat." (Paltu Sahib) "O simpleton of man,Thou hast completely forgotten thy original Home And wandereth thou in endless births and rebirths, Lucifer hath treacherously woven a spell around thee. Có linh cảm được trái đất nầy không phải là Quê Nhà Chân Thực của mình, con người mới không ngừng cố gắng để có nhận định đúng về hoàn cảnh khổ đau của mình, để tìm ra đâu là Quê Nhà Chân Thật. Theo dõi mục đích nầy, con người đã có hai phương pháp: một là con đường khoa học, hai là con đường tôn giáo. Trong khi đi tìm chân lý bên ngoài cơ thể mình, các nhà khoa học đã sục sạo trên mặt đất, bay lên trời cao, băng qua bao núi đồi, đến tận các địa cực và thành tựu được ích nhiều quan niệm về bản chất và sự hình thành quả đất (dù rằng quan niệm của họ không ngừng thay đổi từ thời này sang thời khác). [size]Dù vậy, họ chưa hề đạt đến một khái niệm sơ bộ nào về chốn Quê Nhà Chân Thực. Và trong thực tế ngay các triết gia hiện đại, khi vay mượn một cách thiếu suy xét những kiến thức khoa học ngày nay, đã xa rời chân lý nhiều hơn, với việc cường điệu khía cạnh vật chất của tâm thức và khía cạnh cơ giới của cơ thể. Trong khi đó nhóm người đi tìm Chân Lý thứ hai mà ta gọi bằng những tên như là Thánh, Chân Sư, nhà Huyền Học và Tiên Tri ... đã tìm ra câu trả lời đầy đủ cho câu hỏi về Quên Nhà Chân Thực. Làm việc với những công cụ tinh tế hơn và trên những bình diện cao hơn, họ phát hiện ra nhiều điều mà thế giới hiện nay chưa từng lượng giá được một cách chính xác. Có một sự kiện kỳ diệu là những cuộc tìm tòi của họ đặt cơ sở trên chính cơ thể con người, vốn dĩ là một phòng thí nghiệm thiên nhiên - đã đưa đến những kết quả tương tự như nhau suốt qua mọi thời đại, mọi miền , mọi quốc gia. Họ đã xé toạc những bức màn của vô minh và khám phá ra những Chân Lý vixng cửu và bất biến. Trong sách của họ (chúng ta gọi là kinh), họ đã thuật lại những chi tiết của cuộc hành trình đi vào tâm linh. Họ chẳng có chút tơ hào sai biệt ý kiến như thể các nhà tri thức vẫn thường có". (Maulana Rum) Sự phân tích bản ngã, như các vị Thánh đã từng làm, chỉ cho thấy nơi con người có ba thân: Cái xác , cái trí và tâm linh. Phần tinh túy của con người - tức con người Chân thực - và linh hồn hay tâm linh. Trong khi cái xác và cái trí chẳng qua là lớp vỏ mà linh hồn đã huân tập nên trong suốt quá trình lang thang bất tận. Trái đất này chỉ là quê hương của thân xác. Quê Nhà của cái trí là Trikuti (miền tâm linh thứ Hai). Và Quê Nhà của tâm linh là tầng trời cao nhất mà Đạo Sư Di gọi là Radha Swami Dham, có nghĩa là nơi ngự của Đấng Thượng Đế. |

5 DISCOURSES ON SANT MAT "Sing the praises of Satguru, O Paltu,These alone by thee will stand.Floweth out the water (life's breath) Hurry, wash thou thy hands." ( Paltu Sahib ) The whole world is engaged in carrying burdensthat are not its own. Throughout life people trudgealong with heavy packs on their backs—just like oxenand donkeys.When death arrives, they give up the ghost in anignominious manner. Empty handed they leave thisplane, with nothing that they can call their own.It behoves us, therefore, not to waste the gift of precious life in merely working for another, but to dosomething that will ultimately liberate us from this'prison house'. The wealth of Nam alone can we carrywith us to the next world: and this we should, in rightearnest, try to accumulate. Every second shouldwe value, and every moment should we take inventoryof our own activities, in order to know if we are reallydoing something worth-while that will help us bothhere and beyond. Liberation can come only if youlook within and ascend to the Kingdom of Heaventhrough the repetition of the Holy Names.Yet these words alone do not constitute Nam,which cannot be brought within the confines of anylanguage, be it Arabic, Turkish, Sanskrit, English orPersian. It transcends language and is not to befound in books. It is something that obtains in therealm of the spirit. If words alone constituted Nam,we could easily get them from our holy books. Nam is an unwritten law: an unspoken language. Wander-ing in exile in this gross material universe, we have lost touch with that luminous kingdom wherein it resides. Thick veils hide it from our vision. The Master alone possesses the magic key or the 'sesame' that will unlock the gate giving access to the realm of Nam—a realmwhich lies within our body. "With the dirt of many lives is the mind rusty; And in the company of Saints is it cleansed." ( Guru Ramdas ) "In this cavern (body) lies an inexhaustible storehouse, in it dwelleth God, the unseen, the illimitable." (Guru Amar Dass) "The invisible is inside but is not seen,Because of the separating wall of egotism." ( Guru Arjan ) The wealth of Nam alone is imperishable andindestructible. Steady and unremitting labour isneeded for ascending to those heavens where it isforever resounding, just as it is necessary to work persistently and regularly if we wish to awaken thepower of knowledge that lies dormant within us.The university of spirit has its own teachers whom wecall Masters and requires the same constant applica-tion as is needed for winning academic honours.Usually, however, we do no such thing. Wecrave sensual pleasures. Lust, anger, avarice, attach-ment and the ego keep the mind in eternal flux. With-out giving up this material dross—this delusion anddust that slips our hold, time and again, as we try tocatch it—the soul cannot be cleansed of its impuritiesand finds itself powerless to ascend to the inner worlds.All earthly activities are coarse and mutable. Thế mà chúng ta bám víu vào đó một cách lạ lùng. Khi một đứa trẻ vừa chào đời, tâm trí nó hướng nội. Thế nhưng chẳng bao lâu sau đó nó mở mắt ra, ngắm nhìn về thế giới bên ngoài, xiêu lòng trước những cám dỗ của thế giới nầy và quên đi tất cả về Quê Nhà thiêng liêng của mình. Đứa trẻ lắng tai nghe người chung quanh trò chuyện. Sự giao tiếp với cuộc đời ngày càng thêm gắn bó. Khi nó bắt đầu học nói năng, nó càng gắn bó với cha, mẹ, anh, chị, chặt chẽ hơn. Cuối cùng sau khi đã đi qua tất cả bảy đoạn đời, sau khi trải qua những ngày tháng buồn lo hay hoan lạc tâm hồn con người đã mang nặng trĩu cái gánh nặng thế gian mà nó tích lũy trong suốt một quãng đường đời. "Sinh rồi tái sinh, bạn vấn vương biết bao hệ lụy Và biết bao lần bị đẩy từ chủng loại này đến chủng loại khác. Oằn oại trong dày vò và đau đớn, Tinh thần sụp đổ , bạn khấn nguyện một cách vô vọng, Lời kêu cứu không hiệu quả, Bạn bị ném vào địa ngục, thế giới của tử thần. Mãi lang thang bạn quên lấy hình hài, Tâm thần giao động , cảm giác đảo điên. Dù có Thánh Nhân và Đạo Sư thúc giục, Và đem đến cho bạn hiểu biết cao tột về cửa thứ mười (một điểm ở phía trên khoảng giữa hai mắt) Thiếu quyết tâm, bạn vẫn cứ không theo Qua chín cửa (2 mắt, 2 tai, 2 lỗ mũi, miệng và 2 cửa ở hạ bộ), bạn không ngừng băng hoại". The transitory carnalenjoyments must be gradually discarded, for so longas they persist, the soul finds it impossible to attachitself to Nam. As you keep firmly rejecting materialgratifications, your love for the world will go ondecreasing.Estranged from voluptuous sensations, the mindwill automatically incline towards the spiritual side, for its nature is ceaseless activity. After gettinginitiation from a Master, it is the duty of the discipleto learn what pleasures are taboo and which ones donot urgently need to be curbed. Developing love forthe Master and listening to His discourses constitutesyour own work. As you rise above worldly tempta-tions and lie in complete surrender at His feet, youbecome free from all sins and weaknesses that impair.Spiritual wealth may be accumulated in two ways.First: by toiling hard at meditation; second: by acomplete and unconditional surrender to the Master.The first is the easier way. It is not hard to lie awakeat night, to limit oneself to frugal repasts and to work ceaselessly at one's salvation. The second method is,however, hard to practise, though it is much moreefficacious. If the disciple lies in absolute surrenderat the feet of his Master, he has really completed thecourse of meditation. It means that he has given upthe ego, like Guru Angad who had merged himself completely in the Guru and had forgotten his separateindividuality. The word of the Master is law forsuch a disciple, as sacred as the Quran or the Vedas.This type of absorption in the personality of the Gurupulls up the soul forthwith and it rises within, withoutany let or hindrance.But the mind is a great hurdle in the way; it doesnot permit you to annihilate your ego. Many adisciple initiated by a perfect Master is in despairbecause, even after the lapse of a couple of decades,he may not have been able to see a single flash of theinner light. The reason is that he has never takenrefuge in the Master. It is no self abnegation to permitthe mind to wander and stray outside to rivers,mountains and forests while you are sitting in medita-tion. So long as thoughts are being secreted and ideaskeep chasing one another in the mind, self surrenderis but an illusion and a deception.[45]  |

 ( SAT PURUSH and Kal )   HYMN People try to persuade her in many ways but the determined woman doesn't listen. She says, "My condition is such that I have nothing to do with wealth and property. In this world, one lives for a few days, and in the end none is our companion- So, dear friends, understanding this I have caught hold of my husband's hand." Thus with determination she climbs the funeral pyre, and taking her husband in her lap, She becomes Sati, repeating the name of the Lord. Qualities of the real lover 0 Dharam Das, understanding the reality, I am telling you about love. Those who meditate on Naam in such a way that they forget their family, Who do not have the attachment of son and wife, and who understand this life as a dream, are real lovers. Brother, in this world life is very short, and the world doesn't help at its end. In this world woman is loved the most; not even parents are loved so much. But the woman for whom one lays down his life doesn't help at the time of death. She weeps for her own self and at once goes to her parents' home. Son, kinsfolk and wealth are dreams, so my advice to you is to achieve Sat Naam. Nothing goes with us in the end-not even the body which we love so well. Who can release us from Kal? Brother, I don't see anyone who can release us at the end time, Except One-Whom 1 will describe-loving Whom your purpose will be served. The Satguru is the only one Who can get us released; believe this as true. What does the Satguru do? Defeating Kal, He takes the soul to the Motionless Plane, where Sat Purush is. Reaching there, one finds infinite happiness and is freed from corning back to this world. HER PARENTS' HOME Note the difference between the attitude of the woman pictured here and that of the sati described above. This is a far more realistic description, obviously of a society where sati was not forced. SAT NAAM The Expression of Existence; The True Name given to the Primal Sound Current as it comes into Being at the stage of Sach Khand as Sat Purush or the Positive Power. Sometimes used in this book as a synonym for Naam or Shabda, the Sound Current as a whole. KAL Literally, "Time" or "Darkness"; the name of the Negative Power, or that aspect of the One God that flows downward and is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the causal, astral and physical planes. A very large part of Anurag Sagar is concerned with Kal, who, as explained below, is one of the sixteen sons of the Sat Purush or Positive Power, and who fell from grace and favor through demanding the sovereignty of the three worlds. He is the "father" of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and sends his incarnations into the world from time to time both to maintain justice and redress wrongs, and also to mislead seeking souls and prevent them from leaving the confines of the three worlds.Kal is not necessarily evil-a careful reading of Anurag Sagar will show that, given the fact of the lower creation, his work is necessary - yet neither is he good: he is most certainly not God, yet he demands to be worshiped as though he were. Because he does his best to keep individual souls from leaving the lower creation, he is the ancient foe of the Saints, or incarnations of Sat Purush, Whose work is precisely to help souls leave the lower creation. In the Jewish- Christian tradition, he is in some ways analogous to Satan, in others to the "priestly" conception of Yahweh in the Old Testament (not, however, to the prophetic use of that name which refers to a God of mercy and love). The Gnostics called him the Demiurge, and understood him very well. Perhaps the closest analogue in Western literature is William Blake's "Urizen" who like Kal, functions as the great law-giver (compare Kal's other name, "Dharam Rai") using his laws to trap humanity, and who demands to be worshiped as God. Although Kal is often referred to in Anurag Sagar as "unjust," that is from the perspective of Sat Purush and Kabir: within the context of the worlds that he has made, he is absolutely fair and just, demanding "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth," and getting it. Since within the framework of the Rule of Law and the condition of the lower worlds, we cannot avoid sin, it is true that we get exactly what we deserve according to the Law of Karma; but since the ultimate Reality of the human condition is that we are children of Sat Purush, "drops of His essence," Kal, seen from that perspective, prevents us from realizing our full personhood and thus is monstrously unjust. Our mind is related to Kal in the same way as our soul is related to Sat Purush. MOTIONLESS PLANE Avichal, all the spiritual creation from Sat Lok upward. SAT PURUSH The True Being: the first full expression of the Absolute God. Who can reach the Motionless Plane? HYMN One who will climb the Path of Truth believing my words, Like the warrior who marches ahead in battle and doesn't worry about what is behind- So become like the warrior and the Sati, and take the Knowledge of the Path from the Saint. Take refuge in the Satguru and, developing Mritak, rid yourself of Kal's pain. Rare are those who deserve it Kabir says this, after reflection: Only the brave one who does this can achieve the Beloved. WHO IS A MRITAK? Dharam Das said: 0 my God, tell me the qualities of mritak, so that the fire which is burning in my mind may be extinguished. 0 cloud of nectar, explain to me-how can this life die? Examples of Mritak Kabir said: Dharam Das, this is a complicated thing. Only a few can learn this from a perfect Master. Example of bhringi Those who serve the Saints as Mritak, ultimately-grasping Shabda -achieve the Path to God. Just as the insect who, coming in contact with bhringi, develops its body. Bhringi attacks the insect with its sound, and one who catches that sound Is taken by the bhringi to his home, where he turns it into his own form. The insect who catches the sound of bhringi, itself becomes bhringi. Rare are the insects who catch the sound of bhringi at the first attempt. Những việc như vậy đều không phải là bổn phận chân thật của chúng ta. Công việc duy nhất có giá trị dài lâu là Simran (niệm danh hiệu Đấng Thiêng Liêng mà Đạo Sư chỉ bảo) và Bhajan (nghe Tiếng Nhạc Thiêng Liêng từ bên trong). Cha mẹ và con cái, quyền lực và tiền tài, hưng thịnh và sản nghiệp - tất cả những thứ đó đều không thể đem theo để đi vào thế giới vĩnh hằng. Chỉ có hai thứ là bạn bè thủy chung : đấng Đạo Sư và Diệu Âm. Vậy mà trong thực tế thì tình cảm chúng ta dành cho hai người bạn đó lại quá ít ỏi. |
